Why is the government trying to regulate minimum standard MPG that an auto-maker must make?
Question Details: Why is the government trying to regulate minimum standard MPG that an auto-maker must make, shouldn't they be focussed on what comes out in the form of emmissions?
FROM A REGULATORY standpoint :
The issue SHOULD BE WHAT is EFFECTING society harmfully... if I make a car that only gets 10 mpg but it is the SAFEST and CLEANEST automobile around ~ what would you say?
Don't get me wrong I want the "80-100 mpg car" as much as the next guy, but I do not think the government really has any business FORCING this out of the manufacturer... such a demand for BETTER MILEAGE must come from the CITIZEN-BUYER....
HOW DOES THIS SOUND??
Focus on the POLLUTION/emmision end of the stick from the GOV regulation angle and let the PUBLIC BUYER's DEMAND dictate the function of BETTER MILEAGE
PEOPLE have to make DECISIONS on WHAT THEY PURCHASE : consumer DRIVEN demand.
Because liberal politicians believe that everything they regard as undesirable can and should be remedied by a law.
