Should 500,000 illegal immigrants be rewarded for breaking British law...?

A rally is taking place today in London. The campaign, run by coalition of churches, trade unions, charities, schools and other groups, is calling for an estimated 450,000 long term illegal immigrants to be allowed to become citizens under a one-off "earned amnesty".

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has said an amnesty for illegal immigrants would be "morally right"....really Boris what is morally right about rewarding law breakers ?

Paul C the clue is in "illegal" and the rewarding of this type of behavior.
Way - these people have already broken the law by entering this country illegally. So you suggest we turn a blind eye to the law of the land to anyone with a sob story. This country would be overwhelmed with people,if we did that. There need's to be a line drawn and respected.

Boris is being a complete tit as usual. Serves Londoners right for electing an Eton educated pranny with no experience of the real world.

An amnesty for illegal immigrants would be in no way morally right, but could be regarded as pragmatic in some ways (i.e. they're here anyway, so we may as well have them paying taxes instead of working in the black economy).

However, if we're seen to reward illegal immigration, we could end up with even more of them flocking to these shores. There should be no "pathway" to permanent residency or citizenship for ANYONE who came here illegally.

Making an example of them (rounding them up, locking them up, sending them back) would ultimately act as a deterrent, even if the initial cost of doing that is higher.

With their current salary and expenses packages, politicians can afford to insulate themselves from the negative effects of immigration, so they see no problem with pursuing pro-immigration policies. If they had to compete for jobs and housing with immigrants like the normal working population, they might not be quite so enthusiastic.
