Need help on bibliography of the French Revolution?
Some of the books I plan on reading are:
Christopher Hibbert--Days of the French Revolution
Georges Lefebvre--The Great Fear of 1788
--The French Revolution, 2 vols.
Simon Schama--Citizens
Only scholarly titles please. Thanks!
Depending on your topic, I think the best survey of the French Revolution is William Doyle's The Oxford History of the French Revolution. It's a bit lengthy, but it's very detailed and well written. I would actually read this instead of Lefebvre's two volumes, which I think are probably a bit dated (as they were from the 1950s). But Doyle's book should give you a good basis for getting started. (Get the 2nd edition, because he has included in the back a bibliographical essay, so basically any topic you're exploring he talks about some of the best books on that topic.)
