May an American citizen in Canada legall posses a shotgun or bolt action rifle?
May that citizen transport said firearms from the USA to Canada if intent is clear that these firearms are to be used for lawful sporting purposes? Is a permit from the RCMP necessary for a US citizen to posses and transport and if so, is it difficult to obtain the permit?
Yes , you may.
I`m not sure on the exact procedure , but I think you may have to contact the RCMP in Ottawa for a temporary rifle permit . If you have no criminal record , the permit should be no problem !! I would suggest though , that you make yourself VERY familiar with our hunting laws ...... especially where it concerns hunting on private property !
The law requiring long gun registration is in the process of being repealed , btw .
