Writing as a columnist
Whether or not I agree with them or liked his writing style, I always admired newspaper columnists.
Russell Baker Erma Bombeck, Dave Barry Molly Ivins, these prolific men and women past and present have managed to column belt after column, week after week, within established for decades, while maintaining a reasonable level of consistency. Many other writers complain of writer's block, lack of ideas, lack of time, and a host of other diseases writing columnists write, write and write some more. No excuses.
In Syracuse, New York, we have a local humor columnist Jeff Kramer called. Now Kramer non-native of Syracuse, in fact, I think it's all over the United States, and before coming here was a columnist for a newspaper in Santa Ana, California. So when he started his column here, a humorous look at the new Central York in preparation for the life of a newcomer, I was not prepared for that (go, it's like your family, you can choose, but not when outsiders do.)
Five years later, Kramer is no longer "small new "or" foreign "and, furthermore, almost from the beginning, I was taking power and thousands of New Yorkers on America Central, beautiful fun of our leaders, institutions, news, events, communities and special features. I never really realized how funny it was to the Syracuse area Jeff Kramer arrived in town and raised here!
Anyway, if you really want to be published, it makes sense to approach writing as a columnist would have. During the age of the typewriter, columnists More than likely, he looked at the blank page in the same way others have done. Similarly, it is likely looking at your cursor the computer screen today, as we can. The difference is that they look less and write more. Therefore, published regularly (once or more per week), and other writers do.
How do I get there? Listen to some of the columnists themselves:
Erma Bombeck: "Discipline is what I do best ... If you are a professional writer to write ... You write if you want, write if you have an idea, if it is to write a Pulitzer Prize material. Just do it, that it. "
Ah, the discipline. It seems so mean, it is not, as a rule on the fingers or standing in the corner. But look how much fun Bombeck do not see discipline. And how was prolific.
Ellen Goodman: "In writing about what interests you, you do not feel like you are in a rut, because you are writing about what is interesting for you. "
This seems obvious, but how many times we find outselves by consuming a document that keeps us awake much less enthralled? It is logical that the more time we write on topics that intrigue or we move, we will write more.
Dave Barry: "Most people look for shortcuts, so many people have never written races."
Writing is work. Good Good Writing takes practice. Writing means being prepared for publication, research, send requests and proposals, presentation work, risking rejection, development of the seed of an idea into a fully developed story or article.
The Internet has made it easier to be published but not the creation of the career of writing profitable. Dave Law, and is "do it", no shortcuts.
Art Buchwald: "Just when you think there is nothing to write about, Nixon says," I am not a thief. " Jimmy Carter says, "I want women in my heart. "President Reagan said:" I just spent a urine test, and I'm not against drugs. "
Buchwald loved that politicians, especially presidents United States, gave a constant and inexhaustible flow of fresh material for his columns. Similarly, writing inspiration around us like the air we breathe. We just have to see, hear and / or experience welcome, study, explore and shape the opinions of our inspiration and our own unique words.
Yes, all writers can learn a lot of columnists, that either discipline, concentration, or just love to put everything we see, do, hear, feel and experience around us with words. They have, even today, and yes, if we approach the Scriptures with the mind of a columnist, so that we can.
