Recovering Alcoholic Confused?

I recently quit drinking and smoking about a month ago, and I do feel much better, but I noticed that it's hard to feel they way I did before I was a chronic drinker. I was drinking for about a year straight daily, and I started losing focus and developed OCD. I also lost interest in activities and my feeling for women, like I just don't care if I seem them or not and that kills me. I want my old life back, the life of feeling youthful and focused. I am now taking omega 3 supplements and it works like a charm, it keeps me a little more focused and it keeps my anxiety under control at times. But my question is, how long does it take for a recovering alcoholic to feel alive again or feel like the way he/she did before the drinking? I've been drinking for a year and I noticed a lot of brain issues.

What I want to know is what happened that you started drinking like that. It doesn't make sense to me that you would suddenly take a turn like that--it doesn't seem like you would be just fine and then go over the edge into such heavy drinking. I wonder, then, if the thing that got you into this may still be there, and that you are not feeling better because you haven't addressed the basic problem.

That said, I quit drinking a long time ago after a 25 year addiction to alcohol, and it certainly took me more than a month to get my bearings. I would say it was at least 3 months before I felt remotely ok and probably 9 months before I was comfortable not drinking. So...hang in there. But give some thought to what got you started, because I think that's going to be your answer.
