Why my Omega Seamaster "cracked" under pressure?
On my 21st dive with this watch, condensation appeared. The watch started to move faster than normal. Having noticed that my time was out, I resetted it at 1420 but by 1700 (normal time) my Seamaster was 2100. The next day, it died. It is moving now but I have decided to stop the movement. My depths are in the region of 18 to 30m. My watch is 4 years old with the last inspection in April 2006. I have written to Omeag but they have no responded yet. Has anyone faced similar situation?
It could be due to two possible reasons.
1/ That watch is not rated waterproof, only water resistant. It means they don't guarantee that no water will ever enter it. If I buy water resistant, I go cheap. Timex ironman seems to be cost effective as a backup timer. I've had one fail, but it's replacement was cheap.
2/ Did you hit a thermocline? A fairly extreme one, will cause the warm air in the watch to condense in an instant and bingo...you've got water in there. Again, not covered in your warranty and I also have had this happen with a very expensive Cardinal.
