Soy milk for boys? Any mom's out there giving soy to your baby boy's?

Hi! I am just finishing breastfeeding...my son will be 1 yr old, and we are now debating cow's milk, rice milk, and soy. My daughter did soy fortified with the DHA and Omega. She was very sensitive to cow's milk, as was I as a baby. I am nervous about cow's milk in general, especially with all the autism controversy. My doc says soy is fine for him, but I read that soy increases estrogen levels, and obviously that would not be good in a boy. So...I am confused!

My son had it when he was a baby, and he's grown now, with no ill effects. But I would have looked into a different cow's milk alternative back then if I had known what I know about soy now.

Yes, soy can increase estrogen, which is why there are soy products to help with menopausal symptoms as an alternative to hormone replacement drugs. And because my mother had breast cancer, and I have had a melanoma before, the oncologist advised my mother and I both to avoid soy as much as possible. It's enough to make me think twice about soy if I had an infant right now.

If you want to do some more reading on the subject, look into why soy might be a big reason for all of our fatness here in the US. I can't say what I've read is concrete proof, but it is interesting nonetheless.
