Physics Question?
A heavy flywheel is accelerated (rotationally) by a motor that proves a constant torque and therefore a constant angular acceleration alpha. The flywheel is assumed to be at rest t=0.
Find the time t sub 1 that it takes to accelerate the flywheel omega sub 1 if the angular acceleration is alpha.
And, Find the angle theta through which the flywheel will have turned during the time it takes for it to accelerate from rest up to angular velocity omega sub 1, which can be expressed in terms of all or some of the following: Omega sub 1, alpha, and t sub 1.
The general equations for angular motion are:
T=I*a
where T is torque, I is inertia, and a(alpha) is angular acceleration
also for constant torque and w(0)=0
w=a*t
and for th(0)=0
th=.5*a*t^2
where th is the angle it has traversed
for answer one,
t1=w1/a
for 2:
th=.5*a*t1^2
