Has a Vet ever told anyone your cat couldn't play while on clavamox?

I took my cat Nixon to the Vet a couple days ago for sneezing and mild coughing. They were concerned that she had pneumonia so they took a blood test for precaution. Thankfully she just has a controlled infection in her throat and was prescribed Clavamox. He told me her dosage and then asked that she not play. I was a little shocked. She is an orange tabby and quite frisky even when a little under the weather. Trying to control her to stop playing especially with her sister I knew was going to be difficult. It's been a couple days and of course I want her to get better so I stop all fun when it happens. I've never heard of this and I wanted to see if anyone else has. I don't want to be a mean mommy if I don't need to be.

What your vet may have meant is that sometimes antibiotics can have side effects. Some of them are loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. He may have been suggesting that Nixon might not be in the mood to play if he has side effects. After 40 years experience as a former breeder and cat servant, I have never had a vet suggest that I limit play when a kitty is receiving an antibiotic.

You might want to separate your cats while Nixon is being treated to minimize the possibility of contagion, although it is probably too late for this plan of action, but I cannot think of any other reason to limit his activity. Cats are fairly self regulating, and when they are not feeling well, they are generally not in the mood to play.

Hope Nixon is fine by now.
