Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust not keeping time.?

I had my watch cleaned, re-calibrated and new crystal put in last year at a cost of $650 and after a short time started losing time. Most of the time I wear it at least twelve hours a day. The only time it is off my wrist is when I am at the beach for a few hours in the summer. Was told when I purchased it 20 years ago that it must be worn minimum 6 hrs a day to keep time. I was told you should only wind it when it stops. The jeweler that cleaned it said I should wind it 15-20 times, once a month. Any incite as to what is wrong with it and what steps to take to alleviate the problem. Also, what is the correct way to wind it.

It is not unusual for a self-winding/automatic movement to lose or gain time. One contributing factor is how you position your time piece when you take it off at night.

* To gain a few seconds: Lay the watch flat with the dial uppermost (pointing toward the ceiling).
* To lose a few seconds: Lay the watch vertically (on its edge) with the winding button (crown) facing downwards.
* To lose rather more seconds: Lay the watch vertically (on its edge) with the winding button (crown) uppermost (pointing toward the ceiling).

Invest in a timer-based watch winder to store your Rolex and wind the movement when your are not wearing it. I personally do not own one, I store my time pieces (self-wind/automatic and hand-wind) in a display case, safely locked up. I hand-wind my Rolex at least once, sometimes twice a month, if I have not worn it for a while as I have a tendency to rotate time pieces.
