Cleaning a plastic watch?

I have a swatch with a clear plastic band. I've had this watch for a few years, and because it has a clear band it really shows its age. Is there any way that i can remove some of the grime, this watch has some sentimental value, otherwise I wouldn't be asking, just wondering because it's a bit gross!

I heard that if you throw it in the pool it will clean most of the stuff from the watch. or sometimes i freeze it. that helps a lot
