out of curiosity what do you think when you see a movado? and also, does it impress you at all?

Status symbols are inwardly defined... It's only a status symbol if you and other people consider it to be. Given that, not all people will consider the same things status symbols. Personally, I don't consider a Rolex a status symbol. I consider it a symbol of a douche who pays way too much for a watch to make people who don't even know him like him only for his money.

The watch is nice. It has a very understated look, and I can appreciate that. I don't think I'd ever buy it because I don't have a grand to waste on telling time. Plus, I do my own dishes and I don't like ruining expensive jewelry. Is it nice? Absolutely. Is it practical to any extent? Not so much. Will your friend envy you for spending a grand on a blank watch? Most people aren't that shallow, so I guess it depends on who you hang out with. The bottom line is, if you like the watch and can afford it, then get it... but never buy something you hate just because you think someone else might think highly of you because you had a grand to spare. The watch is great, though!
